| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2026 |27 Art Lovers On Tues., April 21, the Art Lovers Club sponsored a Car Trip to the Barrio Glassworks in Carlsbad. We had a fascinating opportunity to see how glassblowing is actually done as well as view the wonderful glass sculptures in their Gallery. We saw butterf lies, trees and even an octopus made from glass. Most every piece in their Gallery were for sale and a lot of shopping was accomplished! You can even make your own glass art by blowing a paperweight or glass heart. In an advanced class, you can make bowls, vases or cups. Barrio Glassworks is the realization of a family dream. After visiting the famous glassblowing island of Murano, Italy near Venice, Drew, Mary and Gary, the owners, were transfixed as they watched master glassblowers at work, not realizing they were about to embark on the journey of their lives. On Tues., May 19, we are very excited to have Marilyn Ruman, a new resident here at OHCC, speak to us on the life and art of Toulouse Latrec. This informative talk will be very helpful before our bus trip to the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park to view the Toulouse Latrec exhibit on Tues., June 16. Marilyn has had an extensive background as a docent at the Getty in Brentwood in LA as well as at the Oceanside Museum of Art. Written by Susan Pick, President We continue to appreciate our gracious OHCC residents who are willing to share their art with us, on display in the Art Studio. You can see the different painting techniques used to portray strength and power, versus light, feathery touches conveying gentleness and love. The art was created by members of the Monday Afternoon Watercolor Group who gather to learn and paint on Mondays at 1 pm. Many of these artists have become "artists" only recently, after joining the class. Although they do not have a designated teacher, they learn from each other. There is a waiting list for joining this class, but a new class is forming and will meet on Tuesdays at 9:00 am. They will focus on watercolor, pastels, acrylic and oil.
