July 4, 2026, marked the 250th year of the Declaration
of Independence. is free event, sponsored by the
Event Planning Committee, and approved by the
Board, was attended by over 260 residents and guests.
Everyone enjoyed good food and entertainment.
Residents and families entered the Lodge to nd it
had been transformed into a sea of red, white and blue
throughout the lounge, bistro and assembly room.
Outside on the plaza and at the pool, tables welcomed
attendees to enjoy the festivities.
e ocial beginning of the event was marked
by Darryll Barber, Steve Arthur and Cookie Miller-
Carelock solemnly marching the ags into the room
while all stood in quiet respect.
DJ Noe Hilaria provided an array of music
throughout the evening while attendees enjoyed
grilled hot dogs, fried chicken or vegetarian chili and
classic salads.
Bringing a bit of humor, Mickey Schuman, Larry
Caris, Chuck Stevens and Darryll Barber reprised the
Saturday Night Live skit of "Washington Speaking
to his Troops," Following were the dancers of FSTL
Platoon #250 with a lively homage to veterans of
all branches of service with their dance to "Boogie
Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B." Finally, a rae was
announced with several prizes, including two nights
in a deluxe room at the Riviera Hotel in Palm Springs.
We want to thank our many volunteers and guests
for making this event a success.
