In our June meeting, we were joined by TWO amazing partner organizations: the Hemet PD Canine Unit AND the Hemet Police K9 Foundation. We are so lucky to have these Hemet Heroes to protect us So, what're they all about? Read this little excerpt from the Hemet PD website: e mission of the Hemet Police Department's Canine Unit (K-9) is to maintain a team of highly trained ocers and canine partners who are prepared and equipped to assist with critical incidents which go beyond the scope of normal police operations. ey also handle routine calls for service, assist with searching for lost/missing persons, assist ocers with narcotics searches, and are oen called upon to do demonstrations… Utilizing the natural abilities of their canine partners, these specially trained ocers have proven to be a great asset to the department. e Hemet Police Department's K-9s are only made possible through donations to the Hemet Police K9 Foundation, a non-prot 51(c)3 organization dedicated to raising funds for the Hemet Police Department's K-9 program. (https://hemetpd.com/operations- division) In addition to learning about the K9 Foundation from a very knowledgeable Paula Hirn, we were enthralled with meeting the charming, dedicated canine team of Corporal Luke and Canine Parter Duke (tough to say who is better looking!). The big finish consisted of Luke and Duke demonstrating a call-to-action in finding a missing person (a PAWS member) – which Duke totally did by sniffing her purse in the Ballroom then finding her lounging on a bench in our back patio! But wait! There's MORE! PAWS was proud to present a $500 check to the Hemet PD K9 Foundation. This money was generated entirely through our Recycle-For-Rescue program (Q2, April-June). This is 100% thanks to YOU - Four Seasons residents who take the time to donate their recycle-redeemable beverage containers. And we love you for it! EXTRA BIG NEWS! PAWS & CLAWS PET FAIR APPROVED! Our first annual pet fair has been approved by the Board for Sat., Oct. 31. There will be music, prizes, BBQ, vendors, and pet costume parade … and so much more! Look forward to seeing April there, and maybe some heroes from the Hemet PD Canine Unit. Please join us for our next meeting on Aug. 13 at 2 pm in the Ballroom "Dog and cat kennel enrichment toy and treat making." Questions? Call us!
