10 OUR YUCAIPA | AUGUST 2014 Yucaipa means Green Valley… Yucaipa Valley used to support a large population of Serrano Indians. The fertile valley was watered by springs and creeks running out of the San Bernardino Mountains. The Serrano lived in this location most of the year, but would make excursions into the mountains to gather acorns and other food items during their harvest season. The Serrano name for the area was Yucaipa which translates to "green valley." If it would rain, we might live up to our name once again! Fun facts from the Internet machine On June 21, Wildwood Canyon Villa Assisted Living and Memory Care community celebrated their 10 year anniversary. Residents, families, and staff were excited and thrilled to participate in this cowboy attire hoe down. They enjoyed a fun filled day with lots of activities, such as panning for gold, resident costume contest, children's jumper, petting zoo, pony rides etc. They also enjoyed all of the wonderful country theme food. Wildwood Canyon Villa would like to thank the city, the Chamber of Commerce, and Dick Riddell for all the years of support given to this community of seniors. Wildwood Canyon celebrates 10 wonderful years Sat., Aug. 9, at 12 pm, we present our annual "Show and Tell" program at the Yucaipa Library, 12040 5th St. This is an opportunity for the members and guests to bring in their family history projects, books and pictures to share with everyone. There will be a potluck of dishes, some made from favorite family recipes. Have you ever attended a genealogy group meeting? Are you interested in finding your ancestors and their stories ? This is the time to come by and meet the Yucaipa Valley group and let them help you. For information call (951) 769-4454. We meet at noon on the second Saturday of each month.
