11 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | November 2014 | Crumbs from Cookie: We wish to thank the community for a wonderful turn out to hear Taryn speak about drought tolerant plants and yard designs. We welcomed 90 residents. We can ask her to come back in Spring if you would like. Send me an email, cookiescott8@aol.com, I am always up for suggestions. If you know of someone you think will interest the community and they will speak for free, let me know. Patty Meinhardt is the one who gave out the 52 documents needed before we leave this earth. The talk presented in October will have special handouts for "that talk" as well. We cannot pick up extras for our friends and neighbors. They bring an amount that the speaker believes will suffice and we want everyone present to be able to have a copy. I so hope you were able to make it. I imagine you have figured out that I am saying goodbye to my members of the Sunshine Management Team. When my term is up, I plan to retire and let new ideas occur. It's going to be very hard for me to do. I love Sunshine and everything it stands for. Every one of you that has lost a loved one that we have helped is deep within my heart. I think of you often. In June, it will be four years since I reformulated the group. I will miss both the team and helping you when needed! This month I would like to talk about the phone call and visit team. Every member of my team is important but this is a special task to be in charge of. Anne Balensiefer, who is a very special lady, is the chair and in charge of making sure all who need contact are called. So many of you have received a call from Anne who is making sure you are okay. If you aren't, a visit will happen. Sunshine holds everyone dear. If you are ill, had an operation or lost a loved one, Anne will call. We are an aging community so there are times that we are made aware of many health problems. Anne has formed a subcommittee to help. Fabian Yaeger plays a vital part in calling AND visiting. I have asked Fabian, as a special request, to visit one of my widows and she is right there! Each month the visiting committee does their report and each member has many calls to report. Thank you, Fabian, you have definitely found where you belong! Anne's second team member is Priscilla Hieber. Priscilla lives next to Anne so she is aware of who needs what! She also is a huge help when Anne herself needs help. I don't know what we would do without the three of them. I have loved working with all of you. Thank you for who you are. Sunshine wishes to thank Mike Smith for the donation made to Sunshine in Georgeann's honor. We send our love to you. There are many residents wanting prayer requests. In the Multipurpose Room, there is a table under our Sunshine bulletin board with a box for prayer requests. The box is confidential. Only Marietta Ruppaner will remove them for her prayer group. Remember, everyone is welcome to attend the third Wednesday of each month at 10 am at her home. Coffee time will follow! I am so pleased that this can be a short newsletter! To our knowledge we have not had any deaths since the last newsletter. How wonderful is that? For those of you who have suffered a loss that we were unaware of, we send our love and sympathies to you and your families. May rays of sunshine help you heal. Tidbits from Donna: Diabetes is one of the leading causes of disabilities and death in the United States. If it's not controlled, diabetes can cause blindness, nerve damage, kidney disease, and other health problems. The good news? People who are at high risk for type 2 diabetes can lower their risk by more than half if they make healthy changes. These changes include: eating healthy, increasing physical activity and losing weight. Please check out this website for excellent information: www. diabetes.org Please fill out a *NEEDS* Form at the Lodge Front Desk if you know of someone who needs assistance. Also, if you have knowledge of a friend or neighbor who is living alone, please let them know of the Healthy Elder Life Program 888-983-5337. They will assist in many ways, including daily phone calls. Also, our bulletin board in the Multipurpose Room has current contact and resource information.
