That time of year to make those resolutions. But what is a resolution? The dictionary says; Resolution - A firm decision to do or not to do something. This tradition started long ago in the month of March by the Babylonians but was changed to January by the Romans. January gets its name from Janus. Janus was the two faced god who looks backwards, into the old and forward to the new. The custom of setting "New Year's Resolution" for the Romans was setting resolutions with moral flavor, mostly to be good to others. Today we make resolutions to ourselves and not to gods. Maybe some are unrealistic, some wishful, and some obtainable. Resolve to lose weight, to save more money, to take dance lessons, whatever your resolution. But what if we went back to the original custom? Let's resolve to be good to others, resolve to help others, and resolve to be happy. Let's carry this "resolution" into our business. Let's do the best we can for our customers, help them with their needs and be happy doing so. The results of this resolution will have returns of the same. Your Yucaipa Chamber of Commerce is resolved to continue supporting our businesses by providing useful information via informative speakers, mixers, and membership breakfasts as well as keeping our members up to date with Chamber and member events. So this year, let's make a resolution that we can keep, that is not only to ourselves but will benefit others. Let's resolve to do what's right. This year also brings a big change to the Yucaipa Chamber, with Pamela Emenger's retirement there is a big gap in the chamber's leadership and these are certainly large shoes to fill. After interviewing several candidates the Board of Directors offered the position to a most amazing, well qualified person and she has eagerly accepted this challenge. Read more about Amy on the following page. I wish you a happy and prosperous new year. Be good and God Bless Terry Manion and Yuciapa FIRST! winner Aida Soria holding her $100 in certificates to be spent at Yucaipa FIRST! businesses
