48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2015 Bob Howard planned a nice springtime ride that would include Las Vegas, Bryce Canyon, Jacob Lake and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, around through Marble Canyon to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, down to Flagstaff then back home via Laughlin. Things went well until, on day three, Bob's motorcycle starter quit working on a day trip out of Bryce Canyon. Bob decided that the best option was to head back home (without turning the engine off) where he could get proper service. He figured he would be home by 7 pm and he made it! Ron Morgan, Steve Bennett and Howard Lyon continued on to tour Bryce Canyon that day. The next day we headed down to Jacob Lake where we found that the Arizona DOT would not open the road to the North Rim until May 15. Oh well, nothing to do but clean the bikes and relax with a glass of wine while enjoying the fresh air and pine trees… The next day we continued east through Marble Canyon and then south and west to view the South Rim. After sightseeing and watching a documentary movie at the Park Headquarters we headed south to Flagstaff for the night. The next day we headed west on I-40 and old Route 66 to Laughlin for our last night out. Other than Bob's unfortunate episode with his starter it was a great trip. We only experienced one minute of rain on the entire trip! If these adventures sound like fun to you or if you would like to join in on our weekly "Thursday Day Rides," come to one of our regular monthly meetings which are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6 pm in the Lodge Ballroom. Everyone is welcome. ~ Howard Lyon Motorcycle Club For our April trip we went on the Pinkham Canyon Trail, which is off of I-10. We followed this trail up through the wash. In many places the trail no longer existed, so we created our own trail using the GPS in our Jeeps. This trail traverses through the Cottonwood Mountains. After approximately three hours, we arrived at the Cottonwood Ranger Station located in Joshua Tree National Park. We then made our way back to I-10 had lunch at Indio. We had a great time. If you are interested in learning more about this group, please join us for our meeting which is held the second Tuesday of the month at 7 am at the Lodge, usually in the Ballroom. Our monthly trip is always the third Thursday of every month. We meet in the north parking lot of the Lodge at 8 am. Anyone who has a four-wheel drive vehicle is welcome. Most of the trips are on safe service trails designated as four-wheel drive. We do not do extreme off roading. Call Bob Cooper to make arrangements, or with club questions, at (951) 769-6352. ~ Bob Cooper 4x4 Seasons Above: Roadside spring snow Left: Enjoying the majestic view of Bryce Canyon Steve Kenyon bringing up the rear on a steep slope.
