Landscape Committee We are now well into the hot August nights (and days) of summer. The heat and the drought conditions have presented many challenges for our landscape crew. They continue their monthly routine maintenance, as well as address the many additional issues that arise through the month that need immediate attention. After many years of growth, our trees and shrubs need extra attention. Some are threatening our structures, sidewalks, walls, curbs and gutters. Our landscape crew is addressing these issues every day to help keep this community up to the standards the residents expect. The committee has worked hard to finalize the 2016 Budget requests and is now focusing on a master plan to improve the overall community landscaping, as well as, attending meetings with the City of Hemet. Have you noticed how much better the grass in front of our community along Florida Avenue looks, as well as the side areas leading up to the front gate? These are the results of the committee's meeting with the city of Hemet. As our community is the gateway to Hemet and one of the first communities seen when entering the city, we believe it is important to keep these areas looking green and groomed outside our gates. Here are some more examples of small changes we all can make around the house to save water which can add up to dollar savings in our water bills each month: Indoors • Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes. This can save up to 50 gallons per week. • Fix household leaks promptly. This can save up to 20 gallons per day. • Instead of throwing the pets water down the drain, water a plant with it or collect it in a bucket and water many plants. Outdoors • Check your sprinkler system for leaks, overspray and broken sprinkler heads. Repair promptly. This can save up to 500 gallons per month. • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks. This can save up to 150 gallons each time. • Install a smart sprinkler controller that adjusts watering based on weather, soil type, amount of shade and plant type. This can save up to 40 gallons per day. • Water plants in the early morning or evening to reduce evaporation. This can save up to 25 gallons each time. We are in this drought together and all of us want our Community landscape to look beautiful at all times! Do you have any ideas that would help us maintain the Community water usage goals? If you do, please share your ideas with the Landscape Committee. As a reminder, if you are going to make changes to your landscape with a more drought tolerant design, please submit your plans to the Architectural Review Committee for approval before the work has started. You may obtain forms at the front desk in the Lodge. | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | September 2015 | 12 Community Awareness Committee A Few Folks Can Make a Difference… In these political times, our politicians and wannabes seek input from the public that they serve. As an example, a few weeks ago there was a public meeting at the Hemet Library on the subject of Hemet Downtown Revitalization. Some 150 people attended including city officials who shared their views with members of a consultant group engaged by the city of Hemet on this subject. Many suggestions and concerns were discussed with an emphasis on improving the appearance of downtown (near the library and Harvard St.) and creating a more vibrant economy for the area and for the city. Should the city be going after more box stores? How about crafters? And what could a Metrolink Station using the existing rails do for our community? Well these important questions and many others begin to form a direction for the consultants to work on. Their work plan calls for additional public meetings, a draft report to be published winter 2015/2016 and a final specific plan out in the Spring/ Summer of 2016. If you care about the quality of life here in Hemet/San Jacinto Valley and the direction our elected officials need to be going in, you need to be active by attending the public meetings and by taking those opportunities to tell the politicians and your neighbors your thoughts. Again, a few folks can make a difference! Watch for emails and subsequent articles announcing a Town Hall Meeting to be hosted by the Four Seasons Community Action Committee (CAC) scheduled for mid-October in our Ballroom. Linda Krupa, Hemet Mayor and several Hemet Department Heads will make brief presentations. More importantly, they will take your questions and provide their perspectives on such important issues as the City of Hemet budget shortfall and what's being done about it. Our CAC is also continuing to monitor and be proactive on several on-going issues. They are: Highway 79 routing, Reinhardt Canyon parcel size (General Plan Amendment 960) and collaborating with the Four Seasons Facilities Committee to achieve uniform LED lighting within our community.
