This was a good time to get to know other folks here at our community, make new friends, and see for the first time how many players will be playing this year. We also want to thank those who volunteered to help decorate, and our Bocce barbecue chefs, and team members who always make this a fun get together. The Bocce Club wishes all teams' good luck for this year and we hope to see some new teams prevail this year. Oct. 4 will be the starting day for our first games scheduled to start at 2 pm. Some teams will have the first game off, but come out and watch your competitors. It may be hot the first game so please bring plenty of water, and get prepared to win. Team Captains, please always remember to report your Win or Loss to Orville so that he can record all scores. Thank you to all those who signed up to play this year, we hope to encourage more players from the changes being made this year. Meanwhile, enjoy playing on our newly groomed courts prepared by, Dave Scott, Ernie Marsicano, John O'Conner, Van Eychaner, and Chuck Sims. They resurfaced the courts with a concrete sand that will help balls roll better, and also you will see less red clay clinging to your hands. Great job Dave Scott and his team. See everyone on the courts. For information contact Ross Brunetto at 926-8295. Shuffleboard Shuffleboard started earlier this year but we will also end early, just in time to get ready for holiday cooking and shopping. I'm pleased with the turnout this year, we have kept our membership up without decline. Most other clubs have noticed a big change in participation, and it seems that advertising does not make a difference. It's important to keep up interest and to make changes that agree with most of the players. Sometimes it is difficult to please everyone but we try. One rule that I think everyone was glad to get rid of was each person had to remain on their side corresponding to their color either yellow or black. This year a player can stand anywhere behind the off 10 box to shoot their puck. Yellow and black pucks still remain the same and feet must not go pass or touch the line. One thing that drove this change is to accommodate our residents that use walkers or scooters. This gives them an opportunity to play Shuffleboard and position their scooter anywhere behind the off 10 box. Again this year the Bocce Club will invite the Shuffleboard Club to participate in their pot lucks and we will have flyers with all the information needed. Please remember to give Sue Marlarkey your Win or Loss so she can keep our team scores up to date. Good luck to all the teams. For information contact Ross Brunetto at 926-8295. Horseshoes We will meet the first Saturday in November at 8:30 am. Show up prepared to throw a few shoes and we will discuss if we want to have a winter season. Last season ended with Ed and Ernie still edging out the competition for two man teams. Questions: Ed Sanders, (847) 452-1637, text or phone, also in the Billiard Room or Table Tennis Room most days. Happy gaming!
