27 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | December 2015 | From the President – Gerry Edmonds: This is my final article for the Herald. As I write this, the Club's nominating committee is finalizing the slate of officer candidates for this year's elections held annually during November. Elections will be complete by Thanksgiving and the new board will take office on January 1. I want to thank those that have helped me this year including the elected board members, Addis Scott, Chaz McManis, and Elliot Yeager, most recent past President Henry Negrete, and appointed chairpersons Dave Balser, Debbie James, Melody Lewis, Sue Mushallo, Lynn Smith, and Gary Sopata. I would like to acknowledge Fred Grimes and John Mushallo for running the "skins" game for our club members. Lastly, a number of members have provided their time and energy to help Sue Mushallo set up and run our social events and help Dave Balser with sign ups and marshaling our Tuesday golf outings. Space does not make it feasible to name all these volunteers. However, it is all this extra commitment that ensures the quality of our Club and the events we conduct. Congratulations to our winners of the recently completed Club Championship. The winners in D Flight were Tom Johnson, low gross, and Becki Kenney, low net. The winners in C Flight were Mike Falk, low gross, and Don Walsh, low net. The winners in B Flight were Kelly Collier, low gross, and Jim Rhyne, low net. The winners in A Flight were Gerry Edmonds, low gross, and Ron Hulme, low net. Lastly, thanks to all the members for their support during my year as President. It was certainly appreciated. Happy Holidays to all. From the Tournament Chair – Dave Balser: The following events will conclude the great year we had in 2015! Dec. 1: "Partners by Flight - Best Net Score Per Hole" Dec. 8: "Individual Event - Three Clubs and a Putter" Dec. 15: "4 Person Team Mixed Flights - Best Net 3 Scores" Dec. 22 "Individual Event - Low Gross & Low Net" Dec. 29 "2 Person Partners Scramble - Mixed Flights" Look for exciting new format for 2016! From the Handicap Chair – Lynn Smith: Penalty Score for Failure to Post; If a player fails to post an acceptable score as soon as practicable after completion of the round, the Handicap Committee has three options: a) Post the actual score made by the player: b) Post a penalty score equal to the lowest/highest Handicap Differential in the scoring record; c) Post the actual score and a penalty score. The Handicap Committee is not required to notify the player prior to posting a penalty score. Handicap Index Adjustment by Handicap Committee: The Handicap Committee has the responsibility of making certain that each player has a Handicap Index reflecting potential ability. Under the following circumstances, it will be necessary for the Handicap Committee to adjust the player's Handicap Index. However, the following list is not all-inclusive, and a Handicap Committee has the ultimate authority to adjust a Handicap Index under any circumstance that it feels necessary to do so. Before an adjustment becomes effective, the Handicap Committee must give the player an opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the proposed adjustment, either in writing or by appearing before the Handicap Committee. When an adjustment does become effective, it must be identified with the letter M, indicating that the Handicap Committee has modified the Handicap Index. From the Membership Chair – Debbie James: As 2015 comes to an end I would like to extend a special thanks to Gerry Edmonds for all his hard work this year as president of the Hemet Golf Club, you were much appreciated. With 2016 just around the corner I recommend you get your paperwork from The Lodge and register for SCGA and Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club. Single membership is $63. Come on out and join the fun. From the Rules Chair – Melody Lewis: To end the year, I will reveal some not so well known rules in this great game we call Golf! Enjoy and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Did You Know? You may not ground your club in a hazard. However rule 13-4b allows a player to touch any grass, bushes, trees or other living things in a hazard at any time. So what is considered "grounded?" "Grounded" refers to the point where it will support the weight of the club (decision 13-4/8). You may touch the grass at address, but the weight of the club must be supported by you, not the ground. You may lower it into the grass behind the ball, but hover the club face above the ground. You may also touch the grass in a hazard during a practice swing but if your practice swing flattens the grass behind the ball and improves your lie you would incur a two-stroke penalty. Just be certain that you do nothing that may be interpreted as testing the condition of the hazard. You may play two balls into the hole if you or your playing partners are unsure or do not agree on a rule interpretation. Notify your partners as to what you are doing. Play one ball as you believe it should be played and play another ball as your playing partners believe it should be played. Hole both balls out recording the score for each ball. After the round ask for a ruling from the committee. This is only allowed in stroke play. You must replace your ball with no penalty if, in the process of moving a rake, the ball moves. If you don't replace the ball you would incur a two-stroke penalty. Those pesky rakes…. in or out? There is no rule regarding where to place the rake. Most clubs make a decision on where the rake shall be placed. Most logical would be an area that Continued on the next page
