18 OUR YUCAIPA | JULY 2016 Nominations Open for 2016 Women of Distinction Awards 5% Military Discount (former & current members) Ask for the Jarhead! 909-965-8404 Since 1985 Licensed & Insured DON'S TREE SERVICE • Ornamental Beautification of Trees • Preventative Maintenance from Wind Destruction • Correct Pruning, Trimming Skills • Tree Removals, Stump Grinding • Tree Planting/Transplanting By Senator Mike Morrell Each year, I have the honor of hosting the annual Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony to recognize extraordinary women from around the 23rd Senate District who have positively impacted their community. The nomination window for this year's event is now open through August 1, 2016. Acknowledging remarkable women for their contributions to California has been an annual legislative tradition since 1987. Celebrations include weekly recognitions of women's accomplishments on the floors of both houses and the passage of resolutions commemorating Women's History Month (this year's was Senate Resolution 64). Our local event will also be an opportunity to discuss legislative and public policy issues. Nominees should have a strong dedication to making a difference through acts of service, philanthropic efforts, or other demonstrations of commitment to their community. They must also live or work within the 23rd Senate District, which includes Yucaipa and Calimesa. Individuals should try to nominate someone who has not been previously chosen. Honorees will be selected by a committee, so it is important to include all pertinent information and attach a biography if one is available. Nomination forms must be complete and turned in by August 1 in order to be considered. Forms can be sent via fax at (909) 919-7739, email (Melissa. Boyd@sen.ca.gov), or mail (10350 Commerce Center Dr., Suite A-220, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730). This year's Women of Distinction event will be held at the Goldy S. Lewis Community Center located in Central Park in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, October 7. More information, including a nomination form, can be found on my website (www.senate.ca.gov/Morrell) under the "Newsroom" section. Questions? Please contact Melissa Boyd in my office at (909) 919-7731.
