26 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2016 | Yiddish Culture Club Happy New Year to all members and friends of the YCC for the year 5777 even though we are celebrating it in September, a month earlier than the actual date. To welcome the New Year we will join together on Wed., Sept. 14, at 6 pm in the South Clubhouse for our traditional Rosh Hashanah dinner. This year dinner will begin with gefilte fish and challah followed by chicken soup with matzo balls, then the main course of whole roast chicken and Tri Tip accompanied by roasted potatoes with onions and fresh veggies. Honey cake will complete this dinner just like the ones 'mother' used to make! (Or maybe like we made in the past.) Of course there will be coffee and you may BYOW if you wish. For your pleasure and to sweeten the New Year one of our favorite performers, the wonderful Miss Vicki Knight, will entertain us with her repertoire of songs that bring joy and good memories to any occasion. Originally a performer and teacher in her native Winnipeg, Canada, Vicki is now a permanent resident of Palm Springs where she is known as the "Songbird of the Desert" appearing in innumerable cabaret, lounge and dinner theater performances, and as a "Follies" girl. For the past several years she has regularly entertained audiences throughout the valley as well as returning to Winnipeg each summer where she has many fans who continue to attend her performances. Accompanied by pianist Paul Cracchiolo you will again be as wowed by her repertoire of songs as we have been during her previous performances at our Holiday and Installation Dinners. Make sure to get your reservations in early since we are limited to 105 people in the clubhouse. The cost for this exceptional dinner and evening's entertainment is $20 pp for YCC members and $23 pp for guests. Paid reservations must be received no later than Sun., Sept. 11, by Diane Stone, 1800 Litchfield Drive. Dinner reservation forms can be found on the flyer in the Main Clubhouse. This evening will prove to be one of the YCC's highlights of the year and you don't want to miss it! Info., Diane, 769-0130. Calling all men! Does the "Heart of your Heart" inspire you to sing? Do you long to call your sweetheart in song? If so, then you should check out the Sun Lakes Men's Barbershop Chorus. No prior singing experience necessary, just a willingness to listen, learn, and join in. We are a group of amateurs like yourself who enjoy singing and having fun. We meet every Wednesday morning at 9 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. For details contact Harry Kaylor at 845-8054. Come join us! Barbershop Chorus Those of you who enjoy RV travel, company of good friends, and like to have fun in beautiful settings, are welcome to join our club.
