| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | September 2016 | 37 By Micki Rosen, Four Seasons Beaumont Homeowner Did You Know? DID YOU KNOW THAT SEPTEMBER 5 IS CHEESE PIZZA DAY? Although we are all fond of piling toppings onto our favorite pizzas, the humble cheese pizza is celebrated on this day. It is estimated that there are more than 70,000 pizzerias across the United States, demonstrating how pizza has been adopted into our national psyche. Pizza – especially a basic cheese pizza – was regarded by its Italian inventors as a food for the lower classes who could not afford the luxury of meats. The ingredients are cheap, with toppings often being picked from local trees and made from milk. Whether you're a fan of deep dish pizza from Chicago or prefer the more authentic thin crust pizza, today is your day to indulge! DID YOU KNOW THAT SEPTEMBER 25 IS ONE-HIT WONDER DAY? It's what we've been waiting for: a day to celebrate every artist who has conspired to give us one massively successful song…and a grand total of nothing since. One-Hit Wonder Day was established by music journalist Steve Rosen (no relation) back in 1990 to pay tribute to those who have had their five minutes (or less) of fame and subsequently vanished, leaving us only a catchy tune to remember them by. The list of one-hit wonders is a long and varied one, so dig out your old record collection and see how many of these unfortunate souls are lurking there. DID YOU KNOW THAT SEPTEMBER 12 IS CHOCOLATE MILK SHAKE DAY? Dating from 1885, Chocolate Milk Shake Day celebrates a drink loved by old and young alike. Originally served in bars, a milk shake was an alcoholic concoction of whiskey, eggs and cream. If the customer enjoyed the drink, he shook hands and tipped the barman. By 1900, the whiskey was replaced by chocolate, vanilla or strawberry syrup. In 1922, a Walgreens' employee added Horlick's malted milk powder to the mixture and the first malted shake was born. When Steven Poplawski invented the electric blender in 1922, the texture of milk shakes changed from smooth, thick and creamy to the frothy airy consistency loved today. DID YOU KNOW THAT SEPTEMBER 9 IS TEDDY BEAR DAY? The teddy bear is one of the most popular toys for children, and holds a special place in many adults' hearts too. Teddy Bear Day gives people a chance to get teddy out of the cupboard and make him the center of attention. It's an ideal time to get together with others for a teddy bear's favorite activity, having a picnic, as immortalized in the classic song, "Teddy Bears Picnic." This song was written in 1907, shortly after teddy bears were first manufactured in Europe and America. The American toy bears were named Teddy in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, who had refused to shoot a small captured bear on a hunting trip. DID YOU KNOW THAT SEPTEMBER 2 IS COLLEGE COLORS DAY? Founded by the College Licensing Company in 2004, College Colors Day is celebrated by thousands of organizations, classrooms and individuals who don their team colors and share their school spirit with friends and colleagues. Football is one of America's most passionate sports. A reason why College Colors Day came about is to bring attention to intercollegiate athletics. On this day, people are encouraged to wear their favorite college or university's colors throughout the day and to get excited. So I expect to see all of you sporting your college colors around the Four Seasons!
