crusin' cronies Come out and join us! You can have fun even if you don't have a sporty, hot rodded, or antique car. Some of us don't have a favorite car right now because we have sold ours, or are in the market for a new favorite. New outings are being planned for every month. We will meet in the Main Clubhouse parking lot starting at 9 am, Sat., Sept. 1. We'll have our meeting at 9:30 am in the Multipurpose Room and then get together for breakfast in the Main Clubhouse. At our September meeting we'll be making final arrangements for a special "cruise" in this area to an extensive private automobile museum which everyone will enjoy. There is more to see around here than you may realize. There are no group membership fees and all Sun Lakers are welcome. My understanding is that the new owner completely restored the vehicle. I have moved on to my new "baby, " the 2004 Chevy SSR, which is a vehicle I admired for a very long time. After a diligent search, I found my new Ultra Violet sports roadster with a retractable hardtop and pickup bed. The designer of this vehicle was Andrew Hudson and production was very limited which is why you don't see many around. The original engine was a modified aluminum version of the 5.3 liter VE engine with an expected 300 horsepower or more and a Torsen axle differential for added grip. However, it was replaced a year later with the Corvette engine which is what is in this vehicle. Production history shows about 1273 units were made in violet for a total of 10,000 units that included other colors. Since the car is only a two- seater with the option for a third seat, it's not a family car which may explain why it didn't take off with the American public. However, I find many people do like the vehicle and appreciate its styling and super sport appeal along with its truck capability. 24 | september 2012 | social clubs & groups
