54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2017 wild bunch Billiards The "Wild Bunch" 8-Ball Billiards Group is starting the spring season of competition, and we are definitely on the road to another winning season. The "Wild Bunch" consists of some of the best players in the league: Larry Chase, Pete Antoine, Mike Corbett, Carlos Rivera, LeRoy Wright, and Gracy Luna. There are eight teams in the league, with 57 serious players, all vying for the coveted Championship Trophy, and Four Seasons "Wild Bunch" is showing the competition that they are the team to beat! If you want to play serious, competitive pool, we invite you to come by the Billiards Room when we practice on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 pm and join in the stimulation of competitive play. We are always looking for those who want to play competitively and, who knows? You just may want to change up your game and play on the team! ~ Gracy Luna This article is a two month combined message encompassing March and April Club news. The 8 Ball Club wishes to acknowledge and congratulate two of our key players and our secret weapon against one of our traveling tournament opponents, Solera Hemet. Thanh Harrah and Jone Babin have become a formidable team and a key force helping us win our tournaments. In a recent round robin five team 8-Ball tournament this team of Thanh and Jone won five out of five games and helped our club secure the win; 13 games to 12 games. Congratulations to Thanh and Jone! The pride in our female players doesn't stop there. Mary Ann Diehl made a good account of herself during our 9 Ball in house tournament, too. Mary Ann dropped into the loser's bracket early but returned to the final of the match by winning six games in a row. Mary Ann had to face Larry Rice who was undefeated in regular play. She won the first game against Larry, tying up the match at one loss each. Larry went on to win but Mary Ann can be proud of her effort as we are proud of her. Speaking of Larry Rice, he took the 8 Ball championship in March as well as the 9 Ball. I was lucky enough to play in the final by emerging undefeated in a field of 13 players. Thanks to the "Luck of the Irish," I think, I sent Larry into the Loser's Bracket in the fourth round. Larry came into the final and defeated me twice to take the honors. For April 8-ball, congratulations go out to Brian Anderson who was undefeated in a field of 13 players to face (guess who?) Larry Rice in the final. Larry won the first game but Brian jumped up and slammed that 8-ball home in the last game to take the tournament. Great job Brian! Then there's Dewey Allen who has been a dominant force in our club for a long time. During our April 9 Ball Tournament preliminary games I had to win games against both Larry and Dewey to emerge undefeated going into the finals. Dewey came up from the loser's bracket and beat me twice to take the championship for the month. I enjoyed the games but not necessarily the losses. I bow to Dewey's skill and expertise. He's a good player and I am honored to play in these tournaments. We all have a good time playing our favorite game with a great group of friends who all contribute to our very successful club.
