36 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | June 2017 | Bocce All new residents, please watch for this article in your monthly Herald, announcing the four-week Bocce Scramble coming up in September or October. We play a shorter time and usually choose a weekday so that we don't tie up your weekends. We announced this to our dedicated players who were present at the Bocce banquet. Please talk to your friends and neighbors and get them to come try. They just might like it. I would like to thank all our players who signed up this year and joined a Bocce team, or volunteered to be a Team Captain. I would like to encourage more of our residents to come out on Sunday afternoons to watch the teams compete in their weekly scheduled games. We had less players participate for our spring season, but the teams that have committed to play had renovated courts, to play on this year. A large portion of clay was removed and sand put in to replace the clay. This brought the level down to expose more of the side rails so that players could achieve bank shots. Also, the balls have slowed down and roll without bouncing. So far, the players have no complaints and like the condition of the courts. Like most clubs, there is a period where participation drops off and there are less folks involved in the activities. When faced with conditions beyond the control of members, chairpersons, and volunteers, changes on the format of the club becomes a prime discussion. We like to think that the Club can convince more players to come join us. One of those methods is to have short playoffs which we call "Bocce Scramble." Thanks to all who played this spring season, it was much cooler and we get to watch football in the fall. ~ Chairperson Ross Brunetto, 926-8295. NEWS FLASH: Players, our courts will get a face lift starting right after the Shuffleboard season ends. We want to try and organize a short game schedule so that we can try them out. Please watch for information giving you the month and time we post for sign-ups. Our play-offs produced two new champions for this spring season. Coming in second place after a very tough play-off was Gary and Janet Langemeier, reaching that position after three previous rough games that put them in competition with the last team to play for the title. Placing first place after a point by point victory was Jim Gates and Mike Garrett. This is their second first place victory after taking first place in the 2016 season. They are a good team and challenge more players to come out and get them to yell uncle. Please congratulate them because they worked very hard the past two months to come out the champs. We extend an invitation to new players and to our faithful players to come out when we have a short scramble game and see if this takes your interest. If you try it, you just might like it. A big thank you to our Schedule Co-Chairperson, Sue Malarkey. It would be very hard to manage the club without her. ~ Chairperson - Ross Brunetto, 926- 8295.
