34 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2017 | From the President – Ron Leatherman: By the time you read this we will have had our fundraiser for The Sunshine Club. We had over 90 players. There was many raffle prizes and a lot of socializing. This club is the best one I have ever been in. From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: You may sign up at our prior Tuesday golf event, or contact the Tournament Committee by email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com. Our September game schedule is: Sept. 5, 7:30 am: Founders' Cup Match Play 16 Players - Others = Low Net Sept. 7, at 7:30 am, Thursday: Founders' Cup Match Play 8 Players - Others = Low Net Sept. 12, at 7:30 am: Founders' Cup Match Play 4 Players - Others = Low Net Game Sept. 19, at 7:30 am: Founders' Cup Match Play 2 Players - Others = Low Net Game Sept. 26 at 7:30 am: Teams – Two Best Net Scores Per Hole From the Membership Chair – Elliot Yaeger: Every year our club has a benefit that donates the proceeds to a charity of choice. Last month we had our charity event and Team Sunshine was the recipient of our benefit. It was tremendously successful with 92 members and friends participating in this event. The enjoyment of playing and having fun was only surpassed by the fact that Team Sunshine received the proceeds. This was just one of the club's golfing events, amongst a schedule of various golf games. Our membership is presently 151 and new members are always welcomed. If you would like to join, pick up an application at the Lodge front desk and return it to the Lodge when completed. The cost of membership will remain at $66, which will include club membership as well as SCGA membership. Keep your last five scorecards and include them with your application. This way when you get your SCGA number your handicap will be instantly established. Keep in mind a minimum of five scores are necessary to receive an established handicap. If you have any questions contact Elliot Yaeger at (951) 223-3735 or email: ey1611@gmail.com. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: Jordan Spieth's victory at the Open gave fans some real excitement. On the 13th hole he was faced with a very difficult lie resulting from a drive, which went very far to the right. Fortunately, Jordan remembered his options under the Rules of Golf. When you declare your ball unplayable, with a penalty of one stroke, you can move your ball up to two club lengths no closer to the hole. You can also imagine a line from the hole to and beyond your ball along which you can drop your ball, no closer to the hole, with no limitation except you have to stay on the course, in bounds and not in a hazard. The announcers were surprised that Jordan did not elect to take a stroke and hit again from the tee box. Hitting from the tee box would have been a safer shot, but from much farther back than from where he hit. Before you hit from a bad lie and wind up in an even worse place, consider taking a stroke and use your options to get to a lie from which you can make a good shot. Rules don't just penalize you when you don't follow them, they can help you to make the most of your situation.
