FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2017 61 The final matches of our monthly 8 Ball in-house tournament were interesting and fun to witness (in my case from afar as I was eliminated early). In the third round Nick Nicholson dropped into the loser's bracket after being bested by Del Lyles. In the next round Del fell to Larry Rice who continued into the final matches undefeated. Nick meanwhile won three rounds in the loser's bracket to jump back into the finals with only one loss. Nick managed to win twice against Larry to distinguish himself as the monthly 8-Ball Champion. The 9-Ball tournament, also held monthly, began with Larry Rice once again racing to the final matches undefeated in regular play. Mary Ann Diehl who was sent to the loser's bracket by Larry in the third round went on to win against Del Lyles to jump back into the finals against Larry. Mary Ann won a squeaker the first game to level the playing field at one loss each. Larry then won game two and conquered all to become our monthly 9-Ball Champion. Congratulations to Nick Nicholson and Larry Rice and thanks for providing great games to entertain and inspire us all toward our own opportunity to become the monthly champion some day. Just a note from the writer: Contrary to the spotlight given here in each issue to monthly in-house tournaments, that isn't all the 8-Ball Club does or stands for. Mostly we just want to play the game we love and to be with our friends and fellow members. We want to give all a chance to win but also to learn and experience the game as it should be; a fun relaxing pastime and hobby that we can all enjoy. Differing from other pocket billiards groups here at Four Seasons, we play in the evenings from 6:30 to 9 pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We aren't all there all the time, nor do we need to be, but nearly every time we practice or play one of the club officers is there to answer any questions you might have. Come join us if these times work for you. For information regarding the 8-Ball Club contact any club officer: Captain Del Lyles, Sr. (951) 845-5114; Co-Captain Roland Harrah (951) 267-3793 rolandthanh@ msn.com; Thanh Harrah, Secretary/Treasurer (951) 267-3793 rolandthanh@msn.com. ~ Roland Harrah The 8-Ball Club Wild bunch billiards The "Wild Bunch" 8-Ball Billiards Group began the fall season of competitive league play in September and is proving to be the team to beat. We are looking forward to bringing the championship trophy back to Four Seasons. The "Wild Bunch" consists of some of the best players in the league: Larry Chase, Pete Antoine, Mike Corbett, Carlos Rivera, LeRoy Wright, Calvin Moore, and Gracy Luna. There are eight teams in the league, with 62 serious players, all vying for the coveted championship trophy. We are looking forward to the placement of the nine foot tournament billiards table in our Billiards Room, which will improve the skill level of all who enjoy the game. If you want to play serious, competitive pool, we invite you to come by the Billiards Room and join in the thrill of competitive play. We do not play with partners; we play one-on-one with an opponent of your skill level. We are always looking for those who want to play competitively and, who knows, you just may want to change up your game and play on the team! ~ Gracy Luna Larry Rice Calvin Moore and LeRoy Wright agree that practice is the key to making winning shots in competitive play Nick Nicholson Mary Ann Diehl
