20 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2017 Lodge Committee We are very busy making sure that your Lodge functions well and remains a beautiful "face" of Four Seasons Beaumont. As with much of the community, the Lodge has been functioning for over 11 years now and is in need of some sprucing up. We are pleased to work in conjunction with the Facilities Committee and the Finance Committee to present several projects to the Board of Directors for approval. These projects include new flooring for the main building, expansion of the Craft Room and new furniture for the Lodge Conference Room. We hope to see these projects underway soon. The data from the Salon Survey is now available to view online either directly through the website or from your Daily Report. As a result of this survey, the Board was able to better understand the requirements of the community. We are proud to announce the Movie Theater will be presenting pay-per view movies to be shown at all three showings on Saturdays for the remainder of the year. If this is shown to be beneficial to the community, the Board will examine the possibility of extending it permanently. The first movie to be shown in November was Wonder Woman. We hope many of you can join us on Saturdays to show your support of this venture. I would like to thank the members of the Lodge Committee for their diligent hard work and commitment to ensuring that the entire community has the ability to enjoy our Lodge and all the activities within it. This is my last month as Acting-Chairperson, and we are in need of someone to fill that capacity. If you have an interest in volunteering your time to keeping things moving in and around the Lodge, please come to our next meeting on Dec. 27, at 11 am in the RCN Conference Room. ~ Ann Blair Emergency preparedness committee PREPARING FOR AN EARTHQUAKE: A REFRESHER COURSE Since we live in earthquake country, we've all seen articles like this before, but you may want to review and clip out this article. Refer to your copy of the Four Seasons Beaumont's Resident's Emergency Handbook, initially given to new residents but is also available online at www.fourseasonsbeaumont.org. Before an earthquake: Find safe spots in each room that you can reach in just a few steps, such as under sturdy desks or tables. Keep a flashlight, a whistle, a plastic bottle of water, and an extra pair of sturdy shoes next to your bed. Having sturdy shoes is important as after an earthquake there will be glass on the floor. Keep flashlights and extra batteries in several places. Bolt top-heavy book cases, china cabinets, grandfather clocks, etc. to wall studs. Hang heavy items, such as pictures and mirrors away from beds and couches. Since electrical power may likely be lost, consider transistor radios and battery powered lanterns for use. Have sufficient supplies of bottled water (minimum is one to three gallons of water per person per day for drinking, cooking, and hygiene and one gallon per pet per day). Having enough of your own food and water for two weeks is essential as it is unknown how long support services will take to respond. Don't forget your medications and pet medications. Do you have a two week supply? Have the capability to boil water. There are numerous places (either on-line or local stores) for freeze-dried food that only requires boiling water placed in the food packet, stirred, and then is available to eat. Have available personal hygiene items and a first aid kit. Have copies of personal documents (medication list, insurance policies, proof of address, deed/lease to house, passports, birth certificates, etc.) and place in a waterproof container. Have sanitary wipes, hand sanitizer, emergency blankets, duct tape, cell phones and chargers, cigarette lighter or matches, work gloves and extra car keys available. Have a sufficient supply of cash money in small bills as you may not be able to use your checks, credit or debit cards due to electrical power outages. Your favorite grocery stores, merchants and gas stations likely do not have back-up generators to power instruments to process debit and credit card purchases. ~ Fred Weck
