For more information contact Elliot Yaeger, Membership Chairman, at (951) 223-3735 or email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: If a rule of golf permits a player to lift their ball and requires that the ball be replaced, the ball must be marked before it is lifted. If the player fails to mark the ball first, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke. Lift clean and place in the fairway, a local rule, requires that the ball be marked before it is lifted. When you have relief under the rules, it is a good idea to mark the ball before you lift the ball, not because of a penalty, but so you will have a reference for where the ball was. This can be helpful, for instance, to show that your relief position is no closer to the hole. Reporting your total number of actual strokes and penalty strokes is a matter of fairness and honesty. If you are uncertain, take the time to review your strokes and consider asking the players with you for assistance. Submitting a score which is lower than the actual score for any hole results in disqualification. If your score is lower because of penalty strokes for a penalty you did not know you made, then the penalty strokes are added to your score plus two penalty strokes. If you report a score which is higher than the correct score, there is no penalty and the score stands as submitted. If you are asked by a competitor in match play for your stroke count, and you give the wrong count, the consequence is loss of hole. From the Handicap Chair – Lynn Smith: It is getting close to the end of the year and my term as Handicap Chairman is coming to an end. It has been a pleasure being your Handicap Chairman for the last five years and I will miss all of you. I will still remain a member but will only be here for about five or six months out of the year. I hope I haven't been too much of a pest, always reminding you to post your scores. I (we at the SCGA) just want everyone to be able to play to their potential, so by posting your actual scores you can see changes in your performance, plus or minus. I have seen many of you improve so much; even just one or two strokes makes it more fun to play. Thanks again for letting me serve as your Handicap Chairman.
