The spring Bocce season will be here before you know it. The result of the survey that was sent to last season's list of players was favorable to the game being played on Thursday mornings. We hope for a cooler playing season and an increase in participating players. Therefore, the Bocce season will begin playing on Thurs., March 15, 2018 starting at 9 am. The sign-ups will be in the Ballroom at the Lodge on Thurs., March 1 at 1 pm. We will play the traditional Bocce as we did in the spring season of this year, 2017. The rules are simple and designed for a fun time of playing Bocce at our Four Seasons community. The rules are posted in the Multipurpose Game Room at the Lodge. Sign-ups will be for the four person team, "spare tires" allowed. The fee will remain the same in 2018 as it was in 2017, $22 per player. The Awards BBQ will follow the end of the season and will be announced later. The season will be between seven and 12 weeks. This will be determined by the number of teams that sign up. Orville Ellingworth will do his usual super job of scheduling. Dave Scott with John O'Connor assisting will groom the courts. Royce Jerman will continue as the "Money Lady." Larry Stroup will create our flyers. Linda Stroup will assist new and old players in learning or updating their playing skills. Barry and Remi Wilson will decorate and set up our parties with the help of Rusty and Cora Quindoza. Chuck Sims will continue to assist as co-chair. Tony Criscenti will be here to give us the benefit of his knowledge of the game. We will greatly miss Ross Brunetto and hope to see him back on the courts soon! We invite any interested individuals to attend our committee meetings. The next scheduled meeting is Feb. 2, 2018 at 10 am in the Conference Room at the Lodge. Remember any resident of Four Seasons may sign out the Bocce equipment and play at any time. The Lodge attendant will be happy to assist you! There were 24 teams of two participating on the Thursdays in October. We began at 9 am and stayed until the teams present had an opportunity to compete. Bragging rights went to Ernie Marsicano and Jim Gates with the total winning point score of 139! The hamburger flippers were Ernie Marsicano, Van Eychaner, Dave Scott and John O'Connor for the BBQ. The leftovers were scarce, which proves they did a fantastic job! Thanks to all who brought the sides and desserts that completed our menu. Our leftover sodas and beer was donated to the drink booth at the Fall Marketplace on Sat., Oct. 28. Our regular season will begin in September. We will have sign- ups in August. Watch this article and your emails for the date and time. Please mark your calendars. We will play for 10 weeks on Thursday mornings starting at 9 am. The first day of play was Sept. 6 and finals were on Nov. 15. The Awards party will follow sometime in January. with the date and time being announced later. We hope to have some practice games during the off season. I know I need lots of practice on these new diamond finish courts. They are faster than what I am used to and those pucks seem to have more of a mind of their own and do not to go where I was aiming! There is a group who are practicing most Monday and Friday mornings. They start at 9 am now that it is cooling off. It was an 8 am start during the summer. Come out and join them, they are great teachers for anyone new to shuffleboard and this is a fun sport, easy to learn and easy on the joints! For info contact Sue Malarkey, (951) 223-3056.
