| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2018 | 11 Welcome to your Four Seasons beautiful library! It is created by you, the residents, and maintained by a committee that loves both Four Seasons AND books! Once a year I like to recognize the members by name. Cookie Scott, Char Weakly, Sue Corum, Kay Masonbrink, Julie Kruen, Rosemary Luscombe, Anita Decker, Lis Woelke, Bernadette Koretke, Blair Becker, Betty Crase and Betty Barr. Jim Hatcher is our Board liaison. We appreciate his attendance and willingness to always be available. It's a hard working committee that really enjoys their job! May brings Mother's Day. A great reason to buy a book. Does your wife have a favorite author? Daughter? Mom? This solves your gift giving. Another great idea would be to buy a new book for our library. We could use new 2017 hardbound books. Please donate your March, April and May 2018 magazines to our library to be displayed at this time. The one exception are the National Geographic's. They are timeless, any year will be accepted. Remember we do take all other magazines, any month, to the downtown library. They are displayed and given free to the community. Four Seasons is always involved in helping our communities. We are still displaying paperback books from the years 2014- 2018. The paperback section is very low and I'm not sure just what happened. We were so OVER-full that the decision was made to remove 2013 books as needed. Only a few at a time were sent to the Hemet Library but we are certainly in need of new paperback books. Let's start a tradition of buying ourselves a paperback to read and then donating it to our library! We receive large amounts of old paperbacks when residents clean out their garage. They are donated directly to the Hemet library for their "bag sales." All the sales and donations truly help the Hemet library keep their doors open. A reminder, the library door is to remain open at all times. Also, no meetings of any kind. There is no drinking or eating in the library. (We found crumbs on the new chairs!) We have very few rules and the ones we have are to keep the library pristine! Thank you. We are so excited to be involved in sponsoring programs for our authors that reside in Four Seasons. We have such amazing talent residing right here. On May 24, Howard Feigenbaum, will talk about his books and how he became an author. On Sept. 13, Jim Hitt, will be speaking about his books. Just a side note, I just finished his book The Courage of Others, and I could not put it down. His writing went straight to my heart. It is in the library in paperback form. Check it out. Lynne Spreen has just had her last book published in the "Blues" series. I am ordering my copy from Amazon today. We also have a big surprise coming in November. This is exciting. Are you an author that we aren't aware of? If so, please contact Cookie Scott and let's make Four Seasons aware of your talent. On May 1 we are going to fill the display case with the books from our residents. Thank you to all of our residents who donate those wonderful hardback novels and non-fiction books. On a sad note, author Anita Shreve has died. She wrote about how women respond to crisis in her native New England novels. She will be missed but we have many books available to keep her "alive" in our heats. Thoughts from Blair: Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life. ~ Sidney Sheldon Committee member Bernadette read The Thirst by Jo Nesbo. In his 11th and most recent novel, Nesbo writes; Harry Hole has returned into murder investigations after retiring from the Oslo police department even though he had promised the woman he loves never to go back. He is lured into the hunt by his former supervisor. The case of two murdered women has baffled the department but Harry finds a link they didn't and the chase is on. Nesbo knows how to build a story taking you slowly to the top of a roller coaster before hurtling toward a solution you never see coming. And now Nesbo's seventh novel The Snowman has been made into a movie. We are experiencing more light in our days now. Your library committee thinks that gives you more time to read! Keep turning pages… Library Committee Landscape Committee By the time you read this article you must now be enjoying all the flowers that have popped out throughout our community. Truly spring has sprung and we should all take a little time to look around us and appreciate what there is to see. The Landscape Committee has selected a multi trunk carrotwood tree to be installed just inside the front gate replacing the oak tree that was removed last fall because of disease. Looking forward, we have a plan for the fountain in the drive at the front of the Lodge to be replaced with a custom design water feature. It will have a natural rock look with a cascading waterfall effect. The fountain will be lighted adding a significant and attractive evening presence while also making that area a much larger focal point. The need for the changeout is a result of the existing fountain having lost its desired effect with the necessity for it to be turned off in the afternoons and remain off for the rest of the day due to the afternoon and evening winds. The new fountain will be a huge upgrade over what we now have and the design is such as to avoid the problems the afternoon winds are now causing. The project is still subject to the Board of Directors review and approval. Folks have been asking when were going to improve the area along World Cup? The good news is that the committee is now in the beginning stage of working with our landscape contractor to come up with a plan with an ideal target of planting sometime in October. Over time, diseased trees have been removed and they will be replaced in those empty spots along with other plants that will be appropriate in a mostly shady environment. As with all of our projects, this too requires the approval of our Board of Directors. The invitation is always open to any homeowner wanting to attend our meeting on the first Wednesday of every month at 1 pm.
