| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2018 | 5 Did you ever describe where you live to another person? I have –a couple of times in the past month or so. I didn't want to bore them but I must have talked for more than ten or fifteen minutes. This is close to what I had to say: I live at Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning, California (no one asked, "Where the hell is Banning?"). Sun Lakes is a senior gated community of 3,327 homes, and about 6,000 people reside there. We are different than most country clubs, we own everything within our walls. The amenities include three clubhouses, two golf courses, three swimming pools, tennis courts, paddle tennis court and a bocce ball court. There are BBQ areas and meeting rooms and state-of-the-art exercise facilities in each clubhouse. The Main Clubhouse has a restaurant and lounge, large ballroom, library, hobby room and a large veranda facing the golf course and driving range. On the golf course side of the building there is a café-style restaurant used by both golfers and residents. At the other end of the building is a beautiful swimming pool, spa and lounging area. The North and South Clubhouses have meeting rooms, exercise rooms and swimming pools. The north is an outdoor pool and the south is an indoor pool. Our two golf courses, the championship course and the executive course, are sporty, tough and demanding. They are beautifully landscaped and bordered with homes. The courses are noted for their lakes and bunkers. The tennis courts are adjacent to the North and South Clubhouses. The paddle tennis courts are near the Main Clubhouse. Finally, our three bocce ball courts are used daily and there are tournaments throughout the year. Our golf courses and restaurants are revenue generating entities, all other amenities are free. Each homeowner is a member of the Homeowners Association and own their home and lot. For all of the above, the assessment each month is only $257 This monthly assessment includes cable TV with over 150 channels, so our assessment is really about $223 a month. Once again, I realize Sun Lakes is a fantastic place to live. The last ingredient that makes it a perfect place — THE PEOPLE — the neighbors and many friends we socialize with on a daily basis.
